leah peploe

Name: Leah Peploe

Club: Co Manch Aquatics/Leigh Harriers/MMU Athletics/Vallons De La Tour Triathlon

Age: 24

Current occupation: Part-time master’s student, part-time athlete, full-time marketing and promotions coordinator, part-time sales assistant!

What got me into the sport: I’ve swam since I was around 2-years-old. My swimming squad took away our Tuesday evening swim sessions when I was around 11, so I asked my dad to take me to the local running club. After qualifying for both swimming national champs and track and field and cross country champs, I was scouted by a regional talent manager for triathlon when I was around 15-years-old. I just had to learn how to ride a bike!

What do I love about my sport: I like the opportunities. I found with swimming, it was very restricted and you’d mostly just see the inside of a leisure centre. With triathlon, you can visit some beautiful places and it’s also cool to be mid-race and be able to take in the scenery!

Biggest achievement: 10th at FISU World University Games and 2nd in the mixed relay

Name: Google says my name is Hebrew and means weary (tragic), and my second name is in fact English ( a lot of people think it’s Italian or French). It’s also pronounced Pep-low, and not people!

Biggest pet peeves: Those people who always seem to have an excuse for their performances - whether they’re good or bad!

Personal motto: Be kind to yourself

What I like to do in my spare time: I either go out with friends either shopping or for food, or I’ll have a nice relaxed day watching films (when I have spare time that is!)

What is one thing most people don’t know about you? I was a dancer for 10 years!

What is something you have done, but will never do again: I went on an 8 day camp in Sierra Nevada and rode 177km, with a 40km climb with 3600m climbing in one day. I don’t think you could pay me to do that again!

What goal do you want to accomplish this year? Coming back from a very bad foot injury has been super tough physically, but mostly mentally. So this year, I just want to get back to a place where I feel more like myself and just being able to enjoy training and working hard again, which will take me into a good 2022 and (hopefully) knock a chunk off of my running times over 1500 & 5km.

Most memorable travel experience: Probably the iron-tour in 2019. 6 triathlon races in 6 days, and each race was based in a different location in France. It was filled with so many memories (good and slightly questionable!) that I’ll never forget!

Favourite way to unwind: I love a good Netflix series and some treats.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? Twirl chocolate bars, everyday. If it were a meal, it would be a veggie ramen!

If you could learn anything, what would it be? A language for sure. I always feel really guilty that I can’t speak the language of the country I’m in. That isn’t to say I haven’t tried - I failed Spanish at high school!

Most used emoji: a mix between 😂&☠️

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you’d do? Probably have a panic attack, and then carry on with the rest of the day (probs buy a Twirl bar to congratulate myself)

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be and why? Probably Monica from friends.

How do you define success? A bit deep, but when I was younger I thought it was defined by the amount of GB vests you got/medals/etc, and it made me pretty miserable when I’d fall short. In my late teens especially, I didn't fully appreciate the opportunities I had because I was constantly worried about being good enough! I think if you can get yourself to a place where you’re happy with your journey and enjoying the process of being present and sharing it with your closest friends and teammates etc, then I think you’ve done pretty well. It takes a lot of courage and bravery to simply accept where you are in your journey, so to stick to your own process is success in itself.

Studying 13 GCSE subjects going on to do my  A levels next year.

I Love training with my friends whilst striving to be the best performing athlete I can possibly be.

My favourite stroke in the pool is Backstroke. In triathlon both the bike and swimming are the best aspects of my race helping me to get into the leading race pack.

My personal motto is never give up keep trying!

Next year I would love to make it to the British championships again and be able to compete properly.

My most memorable travel experience is climbing up Dunn’s waterfall in Jamaica and swimming with the dolphins in Mexico

My favourite way to unwind after a long day of sport is to have a warm bath followed by a movie in bed.

I have met Rebecca Adlington who was an Olympic champion

In my spare time I love to go shopping with my friends

My biggest pet peeve is people eating with their mouth open

My idol is the Georgia Taylor Brown as she has achieved mass amounts in her career already

I am 27 years old and part of Rhondda Triathlon Club. I work as a full time police officer and somehow manage to fit all my training in around working shifts.
Growing up I was always into swimming, competing competitively for Caerphilly County Swim Squad at welsh national level and from there on my love for training in general just grew and grew. An injury left me out of the water for some time and I saw that as an opportunity to try something new where I ventured into the world of Triathlon. Its safe to say its been the best 3 years of my life and I have never looked back.
The part I love most about the sport is the variety of training, but most importantly getting to meet so many like minded people who become friends!
With only two years competing in the sport so far my biggest achievement is winning the Elite category at Swansea Triathlon. Qualifying for the Great Britain Age Group team is also up there however due to covid I have not had the opportunity to put a GB suit on yet. Hopefully that will happen this year!!
The only thing I want to achieve from this sport is to be the best I can possibly be, no matter where that takes me. As long as I know I have given it 100% I will be proud of my achievements.

Fun Facts:
-My personal motto is ‘Never give up’. Its so simple yet so effective.
-My idol is Lucy Charles Barclay. Her talent in all disciplines is just something else. She inspires me every day.
-A goal I would like to accomplish in the next year would be to be part of the Welsh Triathlon team but also to have the opportunity to wear my GB suit at the World Championships and see how well I can do there.
-The accomplishment I am most proud of is winning Swansea Triathlon. I went there just to see what I could do in the elite category. No expectations to win whatsoever but somehow, it happened.
-One thing I have done but will never do again is a marathon! I most definitely have a love hate relationship with running but a marathon took me way out of my comfort zone. Its ticked off the list and packed away for good haha
-In my spare time when I’m not working or training I like to go on lots of adventures to new places with my dog Ralph exploring the counrtyside and enjoying a little picnic.
-Something I am really bad at is kicking a ball. Coordination and me do not get along, id trip over the ball before I got to kick it haha
-I would define success as being the best you can possibly be. Its not about winning, or beating the person next to you or comparing yourself to others. Its about doing what YOU can do to the best of YOUR ability and most importantly enjoying every step of the way.

For now, Never give up -Paige x
